The Teacher of the Deaf is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons based on children’s individual needs, IEP goals, and curriculum standards, while maximizing opportunities for listening, spoken language, and communication development. Responsibilities include assessing and documenting student progress, collaborating with educational teams and families, supervising teacher assistants, and creating a supportive classroom environment that promotes children’s learning and development. Candidates must hold NYS certification in Deaf/HH Education and a master’s degree, demonstrate experience and commitment to the listening and spoken language approach, and possess excellent written and spoken English communication skills; related certifications and LSL Cert AVT or AVEd certification, or willingness to pursue certification, are preferred.
